St Mary’s School Bucknell
St Mary’s CE (VA) Primary School, Bucknell?
St Mary’s School is situated in the small village of Bucknell set amongst the Shropshire Hills (an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The school plays a very active role in the community and has strong ties with the church, both establishments work in a complimentary way to each other.
There are 42 children on roll at present. We have a small staff group comprising of a Headteacher who also teaches Key Stage 2, a teacher for Key Stage 1 and a teacher who covers the Headteacher’s release. We are fortunate to have the support of experienced Teaching Assistants in both classes.
St Mary’s CofE Primary School was founded in 1865 and comprises the original Victorian building plus an additional room and Key Stage 1 area. The extensive school grounds have a Forest School area, an allotment and an outdoor classroom. There is also an adventure playground adjacent to the playground and a fenced-off area for the foundation stage children.
Play-group uses the hall for four sessions each week. School dinners are cooked on site often using seasonal produce from the allotment.
We run a range of after school clubs; currently we are offering French, construction club, eco club, art and circus skills.
The school takes part in sporting events; cross country, netball, swimming and cricket and during the summer term the children have swimming lessons at the local pool.
